To the Law and to the Testimony

Text:  “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”  Isaiah 8:20

It was a time of great spiritual darkness in Israel.  During this time of crisis, many were suggesting various solutions.  But God gave the

only solution that He ever gives:  To the law and to the testimony, in other words – Back to the Bible!

Today we live in perilous times, but the solution is still the same – To the law and to the testimony.

The Law is Torah.  Testimony is Tehuda.

Law is God’s parameters in our life.

Testimony is the proof and assurance that God’s Word is true.

In our day, we desperately need God’s parameters in our lives.  We are living in a day where “In those days there was no king in Israel, but

every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”  Judges 17:6

People are making up their own rules – whatever they think, is what many people do.  If it feels good, do it is the motto of the crowd.
But there is an external Book of codification, that shares with us, how we should live.

Isaiah 28:15 describes our day, “Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the

overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid

Isaiah 25:7 “And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.”

Isaiah 66:4 “I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I

spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.”

Isaiah 24:5, 6 “The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance,

broken the everlasting covenant.  Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the

inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.”

Isaiah 13:11 “And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to

cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.”

But there is also the testimony!  The proof that God exists and is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.

Take Gideon for example.  Judges 6:1 reads – “And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them

into the hand of Midian seven years.”

God then punishes, and the nation of Israel repents.  This is a cycle repeated often in the Book of Judges and elsewhere in Israel’s history.

Judges 6:6 “And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.”

The sad thing is, every so often, regardless of what comes, people will not repent.  This is the situation in the Book of Revelation.
But there is abundant testimony to show that when God’s people trust in Him – He delivers!

“Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the

children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.”  300 men defeated 135,000!
Daniel may go into the Lion’s Den, but the testimony of God is that He saves out of the Lion’s Den!

Revelation 12:11 – “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives

unto the death.”

So in this end time hour – To the law and to the testimony!!

If people do not, or give different advice, it is because there is no light in them.
What if people treated football like Church?

-    It lasts too long
-    Nobody shook my hand and made me feel welcome
-    It was too loud
-    People acted too crazy
-    Everybody stood too long
-    I didn’t get my way, so I’m never going back
-    Some people didn’t dress right
-    There were too many breaks in the action.  They even took 15 minutes for halftime.
-    There were people there against me
-    It’s too big, I couldn’t know everybody there
-    None of the Coaches or Players (Leaders) greeted me
-    A Jumbotron and speakers were constantly telling me to scream and wave my arms
