The Bible, the Word of God!

Text: II Timothy 3:15-17 “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are
able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all
good works.”

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your
hearts to the Lord.”

II Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Psalm 138:2 “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness
and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”

Great Quotes about the Bible

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the BIBLE for their only law Book,  and
every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited!   Every member would
be obliged in conscience,  to temperance, frugality,  and industry;  to justice, kindness,  and
charity towards his fellow men;  and to piety, love,  and reverence toward  Almighty  God ...
What a Utopia,  what a Paradise would this region be" John Adams 2nd President of the United

“"So great is my veneration for the BIBLE that the earlier my children begin to read it, the
more confident will be my hope that they will prove useful citizens to their country and
respectable members of society"  John Quincy Adams 6th President of the United States

“It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.” –  George Washington
1st President of the United States

“Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet anchor of your liberties, write its precepts on your hearts
and practice them in your lives.” –  Ulysses S. Grant

its divine precepts, the better citizens we will become and the higher will be our destiny as a
nation.”  – William McKinley

“Education is useless without the Bible.”  – Daniel Webster

“A thorough understanding of the Bible is better than a college education.”  – Theodore

“That Book (the Bible) is the rock on which our Republic rests.” – Andrew Jackson

the Bible. No man, educated or uneducated, can afford to be ignorant of the Bible.”  – Theodore

“I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by men who were inspired.
I study the Bible daily.”  – Sir Isaac Newton

“Believe me, sir, never a night goes by, be I ever so tired, but I read the Word of God before I
go to bed.”  – Douglas MacArthur

“We must not build on the sands of an uncertain and ever changing science…but upon the rock of
inspired Scriptures.”  – Sir Ambrose Flemming

“England has two books; the Bible and Shakespeare. England made Shakespeare, but the Bible made
England.”  – Victor Hugo

“Of the many influences that have shaped the United States into a distinctive nation and people,
none may be said to be more fundamental and enduring than the Bible.” –  Ronald Reagan

“Tell your prince that this book is the secret of England’s success.”  – Queen Elizabeth

“The fundamental basis of this nation’s law was given to Moses on the Mount. The fundamental
basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teaching we get from Exodus and St. Matthew, from
Isaiah and St. Paul. I don’t think we emphasize that enough these days. If we don’t have the
proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a totalitarian government which
does not believe in the right for anybody except the state.”  – Harry S. Truman

“A single line in the Bible has consoled me more than all the books I ever read besides.” –
Immanuel Kant

“I have known ninety-five of the world’s great men in my time, and of these eighty-seven were
followers of the Bible.”  – W. E. Gladstone

Jeremiah 2:11 “Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have
changed their glory for that which doth not profit.”

Psalm 11:3 “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Psalm 33:12 “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for
his own inheritance.”

Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

II Timothy 3:16 says the Bible is profitable for:
Doctrine – That’s what’s right
Reproof – That’s what’s wrong
Correction – That’s how to get right
Instruction in righteousness – That’s how to stay right.

Tozer says we will have revival when we learn prayer is no substitute for obedience.
I know many people who pray, shout, cry, weep, worship, and dance with great fervency.  But they
disregard God’s Book in how to live.

Matthew 7:22, 23 “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy
name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

I Samuel 15:22 “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and
sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and
to hearken than the fat of rams.”

God’s Word is better than science, since God was there at the beginning and created all things

endureth for ever.”

every false way.”

The Bible is Powerful

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
Ephesians 6:17

Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh
the rock in pieces?”

Hebrews 11:3 “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so
that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
It is pure and perfect, and forever settled!

Psalm 19:7-11 “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is
sure, making wise the simple.  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the
commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring
for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.  More to be desired are
they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.  Moreover
by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”

We need to get back to the Bible.  It cleanses, gives faith, strength, comfort and power.
The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners,
and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories
are true, and its decisions are immutable.

Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to
direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.

It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword and the
Christian’s charter. Here too, Heaven is opened and the gates of Hell disclosed.

Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill
the memory, rule the heart and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently and prayerfully.  It
is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure.

It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and be remembered forever. It involves
the highest responsibility, rewards the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its
sacred contents.

Psalm 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to
thy word.”

Joshua 1:7, 8 “Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according
to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to
the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.  This book of the law shall not
depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe
to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and
then thou shalt have good success.”
